Ancient Indians Invented Flying Machines by Nishant Sharma

Ancient Indians Invented Flying Machines

The first artificial satellite launched was the Russian Sputnik, in 1957. Before this rockets were used to launch missiles for warfare. British learnt this technology from Tipu Sultan of India. However, the first rocket into space was German V2. The modern flying machines and space technology is very new,not older than a century. However there are many ancient books that passionately assert that technologically advanced aircraft and spacecraft were in common use over the Indian subcontinent thousands of years ago. These same sources prove that advanced space propulsion techniques being researched by NASA are in fact directly inspired by ancient flying machines invented by Indians thousands of years ago.

In Ramayan we learnt that, demon King Ravana of Lanka (ancient Sri Lanka) brought to the country something called the Pushpaka Vimãna,snatching it from Lord Kubera. Vimãna literally means a flying machine. The Pushpaka Vimãna was King Ravana’s flying palace, shaped like a giant peacock, which could fly at the speed of thought. Every country has their stories and legends. How is this ancient flying machine relevant today?

Indian scriptures tell of these ancient flying machines. A publication called the Vaimãnika Shastra or the Science of Aeronautics, is a 20th century text written by one Subbaraya Shastry of South Indian state sometime between 1918-1923. The existing text is said to only be a small section of larger (lost) works of Ancient Indian Scientific & Technological Marvels.

The information provided in this book is believed to have been obtained by psychic channelling with the ancient Saint Bharadwaja. Subbaraya Shastry was believed to have contracted leprosy. He left his home and spent nine years living in the forest. During this time he is supposed to have spoken with the ancient saint (sage Bharadvaja) and was enlightened with this new found knowledge of flying machines. He later returned home (as he also had been cured of leprosy), but Shastry could not read or write so he dictated his new knowledge over the period of 5 years( 25 years after the psychic experience itself). The dictated text was apparently discovered in 1952 by G.R Josyer who later translated it into English in 1973. This publication contains eight chapters claiming that ancient vimãnas from the King Ravana legend were actually feasible flying machines, perhaps even similar in ability to rockets.

The text indicates that propulsion was provided using rotating gyroscopes of electricity and mercury. It aims to provide information to pilots on the secrets of hearing and destroying enemy planes at the same time remaining motionless, unbreakable and invisible. According to American author David Hatcher Childress (born 1957), another ancient Indian piece of work that he decoded, Samarangana Sutradhara reveals that these ancient flying vimãnas, referred to in ‘Vaimãnika Shastra’ were powered by the metal mercury. He states in the text which says “By means of the power latent in the mercury which sets the driving whirlwind in motion, a man sitting inside may travel a great distance in the sky…” This powerplant is referred to as a “Mercury Vortex Engine”.

Shivkar Bapuji Talpade: The real inventor of modern flying aeroplane

Wright brothers invented the first aeroplane ever, that’s what we learnt. But, a hundred years after Orville Wright’s first flight, but the truth is something else. That Shivkar Bapuji Talpade was the man who flew an unmanned aircraft, eight years before Wrights did.

Orville Wright demonstrated on December 17th, 1903 that it was possible for a ‘manned heavier than air machine to fly’. But, in 1895, eight years earlier, the Sanskrit scholar Shivkar Bapuji Talpade had designed a basic drone (remote-controlled pilotless aircraft) called Marutsakha. (Meaning Friend of Wind) An unmanned plane based on Vedic technology of Vaimanika had taken off before a large audience on the Chowpathy beach of Mumbai. Talpade’s unmanned aircraft flew to a height of 1500 feet before crashing down and the historian Evan Koshtka has described Talpade as the ‘first creator of an aircraft’.

From a young age, Talpade was attracted by the Vaimanika Sastra (Aeronautical Science) expounded by the great Indian Sage Maharishi Bhardwaja. One western scholar of Indology Stephen-Knapp has put in simple words or rather has tried to explain what Talpade did and succeeded.

NASA (and other Space research organisations) have been experimenting with the ion propulsion concept since the 1950s.  In an ion propulsion engine, the gas is held in a chamber surrounded by magnets. An electrical charge causes the atoms to lose electrons, therefore turning them into ions. As the ionised gas jet is expelled out of the craft, it is then propelled in the opposite direction. In the 1970s when this technology was being trialled in earthbound laboratories.Thought to be one of the more dangerous metals and exposure to it can cause various health problems. After determining that both these elements were much too toxic and dangerous to use, scientists turned to using Xenon, an odourless, colourless gas which is generally unreactive.

This futuristic idea was used on the Dawn spacecraft. This craft was launched in 2007 and travelled towards the asteroid belt using ion propulsion engines visiting Vesta. It is intended to reach the dwarf planet Ceres located in the asteroid belt in February of 2015. These experiments by NASA in the 1970s may have been the inspiration for the legend that NASA is trying to build space vehicles pushed along by the mercury vortex engines of Indian legend.

So despite learning that ancient Indians were aware of flying machines that used mercury as a propellant, this not something which NASA could harness ever.  Although ion engines using mercury were tested in the past they are not in use now.

The mercury propellant is first vapourised fed into the thruster discharge chamber ionised converted into plasma by a combination with electrons broke down electrically and then accelerated through small openings in a screen to pass out of the engine at velocities between 1200 to 3000 kilometres per minute. But so far NASA has been able to produce an experimental basis only a one pound of thrust by its scientists a power derivation virtually useless. But 108 years ago Talpade was able to use his knowledge of Vaimanika Shastra to produce sufficient thrust to lift his aircraft 1500 feet into the air.

But this success of an Indian scientist was not liked by the Imperial rulers. Warned by the British Government the Maharaja of Baroda stopped helping Talpade. It is said that the remains of the Marutsakthi were sold to ‘foreign parties’ by the relatives of Talpade in order to salvage whatever they can out of their loans to him. Talpade’s wife died at this critical juncture and he was not in a mental frame to continue his research. But his efforts to make known the greatness of Vedic Shastras was recognised by Indian scholars, who gave him the title of Vidya Prakash Pra-deep.

At an aeronautical conference in Chennai Talpade’s flight was discussed by foreign delegates. D H Bedekar, the one-time principal defence scientific officer, has said Mr Talpade’s plane for some technical reasons failed to operate to its full design limits.

Talpade wanted to unravel the mystery with further experiments. He even made an appeal for funds some Rs 50,000 at a public meeting in Ahmedabad he had addressed. But to no avail. As his biographer, Professor Kelkar, wrote: “His efforts crashed like a bird whose wings are slashed.”

In contrast, the US army donated 25,000 dollars to the Wright brothers to pursue their feat. In turn, the brothers’ invention redefined how the US fought its wars.

And so, some say that Talpade passed away in 1916 un-honoured, in his own country.

How to start Krishna Consciousness by Sweta Ganguly

Hare Krishna!

Radha Krishna painting made by Sweta Ganguly Radha Krishna painting made by Sweta Ganguly

I am not a devotee of Krishna as the word ‘devotee’ is a very pure and respectable word and for a person like me the word is not suitable. But I would like to say that I am a ‘big fan’ of Krishna and his ideas. I love to hear about Him and his glories. I love to sing any song related to Him and His glories.

Krishna Consciousness  can be only explained by Krishna’s pure devotees, but because Krishna’s pure devotee Srila Prabhupada mercy I got the opportunity to consider only Him as the Lord. There is no eligibility criteria or you don’t have to be a super natural human being with super natural powers.

A point which I would like to add in my article is that being Krishna Conscious is a blessing from God’s pure devotees only. As we all know that we should keep on trying to achieve anything, so we should first try to get His blessings to become Conscious about Him all the time. We should try by being devoted towards Him as per his pure devotees instructions. The moment we get His mercy, we become Krishna Consciousness. But again, Krishna Consciousness is not something you achieve, it is a journey, better to be called a ‘beautiful journey’. And this article is about how to start this ‘beautiful journey’.

Becoming Krishna Conscious is very different and a pleasant experience than becoming rich or passing an exam in School, College or University. When we give an exam we all try to pass that exam but sometimes some students fail. Becoming Krishna Consciousness is different as well as similar to this. When you try to be Krishna Conscious, Krishna Himself helps you to become one. And in the exam of life or the exam of whether you are really Krishna Conscious or not, Krishna Himself helps you. Now let us compare this exam with other exams of this materialistic world. In school exam, the examiner does not help you to pass the exam, you have to do it on own your own, but this is not the case with Krishna Consciousness. Krishna is the examiner here but He is a very merciful examiner and more importantly what we should never forget is that, He is our parent too. Just as, if you remember, our parents used to help us in our school tasks, similarly Krishna being our eternal Father helps us in getting His Consciousness and be in that, once He sees we sincerely want Him. We just need to recognise our relation with Him. Think that if our parents become our examiners too, then having the love for us and holding that position they will never let us fail as they will guide us through every step. So this is the relation we have with our Krishna too. Krishna being our parent and examiner will never let us fail but we need to have faith on Him and this faith comes when we are Krishna Conscious.
Once watching a video of Gaur Gopal Das Prabhuji I really started having more
faith on Krishna. Prabhuji was citing an example from his own life. The example goes like this:-

Prabhuji was travelling by a plane once where he came across a little girl. Due to weather problems the plane was jerking tremendously and all the passengers got scared (which was obvious). Some closed their eyes, some started screaming, some started murmuring and praying to God. But at that time, Prabhuji noticed a little girl. She was having a doll in her hand and was playing with it with no worry
of what is happening around her. She was so relaxed and was not a bit scared. Seeing this Prabhuji got amazed and

asked her, “All the passengers are screaming and are so scared, why are you not being afraid?
Don’t you feel scared?” The girl replied, “No.”
Prabhuji asked, “But how and why?”
The girl replied’ “Because the Pilot who is flying the plane is my father and I know that He will land me safely no matter what!”

So this is the confidence we have on our parents. From this example by Prabhuji we can all understand that when we come to know that Krishna is our father, the gear of our life is under His control and He is the Supreme Controller of every single thing of this Universe, then why should we worry. He will make us cross every hurdle gracefully. And this confidence on Him comes from progressing in Krishna Consciousness and for starting this Consciousness we just need to have faith on Him and the rest He will manage.
Just as He was the charioteer of Arjuna and Ajuna won the battle, similarly He is the driver of our vehicle called life. So we will definitely win as we all know wherever there is Krishna, there is always the presence of Goddess of Fortune.
I would like to add one more point that anybody from any religion or any region or of any age can become Krishna Conscious and he or she can make any type of relation with Krishna. Krishna will reciprocate with him or her in the same way. Like, I consider Krishna as my dearest Friend and a Brother too.
What I came across from my practical experience is that reading articles by Krishna’s pure devotees and watching videos about Krishna can really help anyone to become Krishna Conscious. From a very young age Krishna became my Friend. I wanted to gain knowledge about Him, so Krishna showed me these paths. I am pretty sure that these will help anybody to clear his questions about Krishna and start becoming Krishna Conscious.
I am concluding my article by adding one last point that if someone does not have time to read articles or watch videos, then also there is a hope to them to become Krishna Conscious and that hope is to chant the ‘Hare Krishna’ Mahamantra. This Mantra can be chanted by anyone of any age while doing any work and also at any place and time and this Mantra is so powerful that one will automatically become Krishna Conscious. This is the greatest Mantra of all mantras and the moment one chants he or she becomes pure and Krishna Conscious but since we are humans surrounded by materialistic things so we become impure. To maintain this purity and continue to be in Krishna Consciousness we should keep on chanting this Mahamantra. The Mantra goes like this:-

Thank you for reading this article and I hope it helps the readers to start and maintain their Krishna Consciousness.

digitization of all the original books

KrishnaPath Newsletter

Happy Diwali, Govardhana Puja and Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance day!

For these supremely auspicious days we are pleased to announce this wonderful and most Important new project!

The full digitization of all the original books!

Important note about the original books:

As of now the only 100% original and approved (pre 1978) text versions of Srila Prabhupada’s books are the scans available on the website

The digital text versions, such as what are found in the Vedabase, are not perfect replicas of the books that were printed during Srila Prabhupada’s presence. There are no digitized versions of these books available anywhere as of now, except the original book SCANS available on this site for free download.

We are working hard to preserve and distribute the original, authorized and blessed books of Srila Prabhupada and to eventually have digitized versions of all his original works.

So far the volunteers have completed the very first laborious task of manually scanning every page of all those texts and making them available on this site for you to download for free simply as raw book scans. The “Original Book Vedabase” is the closest thing available in digital text format and is an early step of the preservation process although not identical to the actual books that were printed during Srila Prabhupada’s manifest presence.

The next step that we are actively working on is to manually go through all the scans and word by word, comma by comma reproduce them into fully functioning digitized text files that are compatible with all computers, smartphones, and tablets. Everything will be 100% the original way, as Srila Prabhupada has clearly instructed us “The next printing should be again to the original way.” We currently have the original book scans available for free download on this page.

It is a huge laborious task to produce/digitizing thousands of pages of text from the original book scans identical to the original material as Srila Prabhupada personally approved and blessed it, including all the original cover art and color plates (all original paintings in the books) with copy and pastable text and even active clickable chapter hyperlinks. But by the mercy of Krishna and Srila Prabhupada someone has stepped forward to do this huge task. Upon completion those texts will be immediately available for free download on the website in all digital formats such as PDF, ePub, Kindle etc.

If you would like to see a sample of what we are able to do, we have already produced three books that are 100% identical to the originals that Srila Prabhupada blessed and approved!

The Nectar of Instruction (1976 edition)

Krsna Consciousness The Matchless Gift
(First printing, original 1974 edition)

Easy Journey to Other Planets (1977 edition)

We are asking you to come forward and donate hardily on these next few auspicious days to this most important project!

There are thousands of devotee’s all over the world and if everyone gives just a few dollars then this work will go on unhindered and very soon the entire world will have these files for free download and you will get the supreme benefit for this greatest act of welfare to the human race!

Srila Prabhupada explains the glories of Srila Īśvara Purī

Ishvara Puris birthplace

Īśvara Purī’s birthplace is popularly known by the name “Chaitanya Doba.” The word doba means “a pool of water”. When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu passed through Kuymara Hatta on His way to Puri, He showed respect for His spiritual master by picking up some earth from the place of his birth, wrapping it in His cloth and taking it with Him. Thousands of pilgrims have since followed His example, thus forming a pit that has since filled with water. (In the image: Chaitanya Doba-birthplace of Shrila Īśvara Purī).
